Homeopathic Training: What more do we need?

In many countries, homeopathy is a super-specialty and is learnt after the initial medical training is complete. Only people who feel special interest for this alternative system of medicine opt for it and seek specialization in it. But in some countries like India, Homeopathy is a graduation course and many people opt for it as an alternative to other courses.

No doubt in India too, we have very quality homeopathic education and great homeopathic colleges scattered across the country. Also in many colleges, good numbers of students are seeking quality education. However, there are certain things we need to look into for improving the homeopathic training at these institutes.

(1) First of all, not all homeopathic colleges have attached hospitals. Unless a student looks for cases that he studies in theory, he gains very little knowledge.

(2) Also the faculties in homeopathic training must be well-aware that the quest for clinical knowledge must be aroused in these homeopathic students. Though homeopathy firmly believes in symptomatic treatment, the student must be aware of nuances of physiology and pathology, so that he can figure out what the common symptoms of disease are and what are the peculiar symptoms that can be effectively treated with homeopathy.

(3) Homeopathic training must also include latest methods of learning like internet technology through which students can definitely seek latest information about homeopathy and utilize it for bettering their existing knowledge.

(4) Homeopathic students must be taught in accordance with the changed health-scenario and should be encouraged to participate in clinical trials or case studies and drug proving more often.

(5) Research-based studies should be encouraged right from graduation level so that students feel more enthusiastic towards overall homeopathic advancement.

No doubt the homeopathic education in India is improving. What we need is a more serious look into the propagation of homeopathy as a system of medicine by working together and relieving the suffering humanity with this subtle yet powerful system!
